Will my granite countertop break?
Not with normal every day wear and tear.
Do I need to seal my granite countertops?
This depends on the granite you choose. Generally, lighter color granites need to be sealed darker ones don't. To determine if you’re stone should be sealed try using The Water Test.
What is etching?
Etching is surface damage. When acids from items such as lemons, alcohols, and even some cleaning products come into contact with certain minerals in your stone, they leave dull spots or rings. Sometimes it feels rougher. Other times, you cannot feel a difference but you'll see a dull looking area.
Does granite etch?
Most granite doesn’t etch. But there are always exceptions to the rule.
Can I cut on my granite countertops?
Yes you can, although it may dull your knives.
Will granite chip?
Yes, but it CAN BE REPAIRED. A colored epoxy is used to fill in small chips. If you get a larger chip, save the piece of stone so it can be used for the repair.
Will granite scratch?
Usually not, it depends on the granite.
Will granite burn?
Not usually. Granite can withstand heat of up to 1200 degrees Fahrenheit.
How to clean granite countertops?
A mild dish soap and water will work. We also recommend using cleaning products made specifically for natural stone, such as Gran Quartz 3-in-1 cleaner (cleaner, polisher, and protector for everyday use)
What are seams and do I need them?
Seams are joints where two pieces of stone are connected together. If you have curves or really long spans of granite you will usually need seams.
Should I see my stone before ordering it?
It is not necessary although we do recommend that you choose the exact slabs you want to use, since many natural stones may vary in color and even pattern from one slab to the next.
What are granite remnants?
Remnants are smaller pieces of stone that are left over from other jobs.
Come visit our location to select a piece from our huge remnant yard. These remnants work great for small countertops or projects (bathroom vanity top, shelves, tables, etc...)
What is the weight of granite?
2cm (3/4") granite is about 13 lbs / sq.ft.
3cm (1.25") granite is about 20 lbs / sq.ft.
The darker stones are usually heavier than the lighter stones.
What is the thickness of a granite countertop?
2cm = 3/4" // 3cm = 1.25"
Generally 3cm is the preferred thickness for granite countertops.
Will my cabinets support granite countertops?
Most cabinets will as long as they're sturdy.

What is the difference between ceramic and porcelain tile?
Ceramic tile is a blend of clays and other natural materials, which is shaped, colored and fired in kilns at about 1600 degrees Fahrenheit where as Porcelain tile is made of clay, quartz and feldspar and fired at 2300 degree Fahrenheit making it harder, denser, less porous, and less prone to stains than ceramic tile. Porcelain has an absorption rate of less than 0.05%, making it suitable for outdoor applications as well as indoor. Porcelain comes in three styles: through-body (color matches from top to bottom), glazed (only top layer has glaze), and color-body (body color is similar though not exact to top layer).
Are tile floors slippery?
It depends on the tile’s Coefficient of Friction (COF). Most of our tiles meet or exceed ADA recommendations.
Can I put tile over my plywood subfloor?
Yes, but you will need to add a layer of concrete board or another tile substrate first. Tile does not bond well to wood. Changes in humidity cause the wood to shrink and to expand and since the tile can’t move with the wood it may pop loose. Refer to our Do It Yourself Guides for more information on installing tile.
How much tile do I need for my job?
To figure out the square footage needed simply measure length multiplied by the width of the area in inches and divide by 144. Usually you will want to add 7-10% extra for waste.
How much trim do I need for my job?
The amount of trim needed calculated by linear feet. To find the linear feet needed, take the length of the edges to be covered in inches and divide it by the length of the trim tiles (usually around 12”).
Sanded vs. un-sanded grout?
Un-sanded grout is intended for grout joints less than 0.125″ wide and it will crack if used in wider joints. Sanded grout should be used in joints 0.125″ and wider. For joints over 0.5” wide you may need to use a special grout mixture.
